Ingredients
- Boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- Bone-in split breasts or thighs
- Whole chicken (3–4 lbs)
- Salt, pepper, and herbs (optional)
- Chicken broth or cooking liquid
- Digital meat thermometer
Instructions
- Choose Your Cut: Decide on breasts, thighs, or a whole chicken. Each has its own time range.
- Prep Your Chicken: Season generously. Optional: sear first for extra flavor.
- Add to Slow Cooker: Place chicken in with a splash of broth or sauce (about 1/2 cup).
- Set the Time: Cook boneless breasts on LOW for 1.5–2.5 hours. Thighs go for 4–5 hours. Whole chickens need 5–6 hours on LOW.
- Check Temperature: Use a meat thermometer. Chicken should reach 165°F (74°C) internally.
- Rest and Serve: Let the chicken sit for 5 minutes before slicing or shredding. Serve warm.
Notes
Avoid overcooking—chicken breasts dry out if left in too long. Always check doneness early. Frozen chicken should be thawed before slow cooking for safety. For extra flavor, mix herbs or garlic into your cooking liquid.
